How to Send Wedding Invitations on WhatsApp (with Message Templates)

Ready-to-copy WhatsApp wedding invitation messages, plus etiquette tips for sending personal invitation links and collecting RSVPs.

Most wedding guests in Zimbabwe will hear about your wedding on WhatsApp first. It's where families plan, where aunties share news, and where friends actually read messages. So it makes sense to send the invitation itself on WhatsApp, as long as it still feels like an invitation and not a forwarded flyer.

Here's how to do it well, with message wording you can copy.

Why send your wedding invitation on WhatsApp?

  • Guests open it. WhatsApp messages get read; emails and printed cards often don't, especially for guests outside the country.
  • It arrives instantly, whether your guest is in Harare, Bulawayo, Johannesburg or London.
  • Replies are easy. A guest can confirm in one tap instead of phoning around.
  • It costs less. No printing, no couriers, no reprints when a detail changes.

The thing to avoid is the single image forwarded to fifty groups. It gets lost in the chat, guests can't tell whether they personally are invited, and you have no idea who is coming.

Send each guest their own link

A digital wedding invitation solves this. Instead of a picture, each guest gets a personal link that opens a beautiful invitation greeting them by name, with:

  • the date, time and a live countdown
  • the ceremony and reception venue, with a map and directions
  • your dress code and colours
  • a button to RSVP online, so you see who is coming
  • one-tap Add to calendar

Because the link is personal, you know exactly who opened it and who replied. With Ever After you can even send the invitations straight from your guest list, and guests can tap Reserve or Decline right inside WhatsApp.

Wedding invitation messages for WhatsApp

Keep the message short. The invitation link does the heavy lifting. Copy any of these and change the names.

Reminder (two weeks before)

Hi Rudo, just a gentle reminder that our wedding is on 12 December. If you haven't yet, please RSVP here: [your link]. We can't wait to celebrate with you!

Tips for WhatsApp etiquette

  1. Send personally, not to groups. A group message makes the invitation feel optional. Personal links make guests feel invited.
  2. Give an RSVP date. Caterers and venues need numbers. Four to six weeks before the wedding is usual.
  3. Send at a sensible time. Weekday evenings get the best response. Avoid late nights and early mornings.
  4. Say who is invited. If the invitation is for one person or a couple only, say so politely in the message (for example "We have reserved one seat for you").
  5. Follow up once. A single friendly reminder is enough. A digital guest list shows you exactly who still needs one.
  6. Thank your guests afterwards. A short thank-you message after the wedding, with a link where guests can add their photos, means a lot.
